The meatballs take a bit of time to prepare, but the wait is worth it!
For 4 Serving(s)
To make sauce, heat olive oil in a medium-size frypan on medium heat. Add onions and saute until soft. Add garlic and cook until soft, about 6 minutes. Add wine and simmer for about 6 minutes. Add tomatoes and simmer for 40 minutes or until juice is reduced. Add a pinch of salt if needed. Remove from heat.
Heat 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil in a large frypan. Add onions and saute until translucent. Add garlic and mix with onions. Set aside.
Break apart ground beef into large bowl. Whisk together egg and milk, and mix into the ground beef. Add onion mixture and blend it into the beef. Mix together oregano, bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper, and sprinkle on the meat and mix well. Shape meat into 2-inch meatballs.
Add remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons oil to the frypan and brown the meatballs.
Place the meatballs in a 3 litre/3quart casserole dish. Cover with tomato sauce. Bake in 400°F oven until the meatballs are thoroughly cooked, about 25 minutes.
Toss with spaghettini.
