Sage Dressing (stuffing)

This yummy dressing's secret ingredient Chicken with Rice Soup, which adds body and flavour. If you don't have this soup, substitute with ½ cup chicken broth.

Sage Dressing

  • 1 medium cooking onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon(s) butter or margarine
  • 8 cups cubed, sliced bread
  • 1 teaspoon(s) ground sage, divided
  • 1 - 284ml/10oz. tin of Chicken Rice Soup, or ½ cup(s) chicken broth
  • Poultry spikes or slice of bread
  • Cooking string

Sage Dressing (stuffing) Directions

Saute onion in butter or margarine on medium heat until translucent. Do not brown!

Place cubed bread in a large bowl. Mix in onions. Sprinkle bread with sage, ½ teaspoon at a time, mixing into bread, then adding second ½ teaspoon, mixing it into bread as well. Add chicken soup. Mix well. 

Form the dressing into large balls, and place in chicken (or turkey) cavity. Cover the cavity entrance with a slice of bread, or close entrance with dressing spikes. Tie legs together with cooking string.

Roast the chicken.

Recipe notes

A chicken or turkey should not be stuffed with dressing until just before its time to start roasting.
