For 4 Serving(s)

  • 8 slices white or other sandwich bread
  • 8 slices pastrami
  • 4 sandwich-size slices havarti cheese
  • sauerkraut
  • butter
  • mustard, if desired

Reuben Sandwiches Directions

Place 4 slices of bread on a cutting board or other surface. Load each with 2 slices of pastrami.

Drain sauerkraut. Place desired amount on top of meat. Cover with one sandwich-size slice of havarti. Top with a slice of bread. Butter the top of bread.

Heat large frypan to medium heat. Cook two sandwiches at a time - place two sandwiches in the pan, buttered side down. Butter the top of each sandwich. Cover with lid. Allow the sandwich to cook for 4 minutes or until the bottom bread is golden-brown. Carefully flip and allow the other side to cook.

Remove from heat. Place on cutting board, and if desired, open sandwich and drizzle with mustard. Close sandwich and cut in half.

Repeat to cook the other two sandwiches.

Serve with dill or sweet pickles.

Recipe notes

If the meat has not totally warmed, pop the cooked sandwich in the microwave for 20 seconds on high setting.
